چکیده
Foundational philosophical beliefs about mathematics in the mathematical community may have an unappreciated yet profound impact on ethics practice and education, which also affects practice. A historical basis of dominant platonic formalist views are described evaluated, after alternative evidence-based foundation for thought is outlined. The dualistic nature view based intuition then compared to parallel developments universalizing Western thought. These background ideas set stage a discussion traditional education community. This potential belief foundations education.

Foundational and Mathematical Uses of Higher Types
In this paper we develop mathematically strong systems of analysis in higher types which, nevertheless, are proof-theoretically weak, i.e. conservative over elementary resp. primitive recursive arithmetic. These systems are based on non-collapsing hierarchies (Φn-WKL+, Ψn-WKL+) of principles which generalize (and for n = 0 coincide with) the so-called ‘weak’ König’s lemma WKL (which has been st...

Mathematical history, philosophy and education
History of mathematics occupies itself describing processes of growth and development, whereas philosophy of mathematics is concerned with questions of justification. Both play an essential role within the educational context. But there is a problem because genuine historical studies necessitate ever greater particularity whereas mathematics and philosophy require generality and abstraction. Th...

متن کاملMathematical concepts and investigative practice
In this paper I investigate two notions of concepts that have played a dominant role in 20th century philosophy of mathematics. According to the first, concepts are definite and fixed; in contrast, according to the second notion concepts are open and subject to modifications. The motivations behind these two incompatible notions and how they can be used to account for conceptual change are pres...
